To do a short thread on Miss Sherlock for a second. It is some amazingly fun television, and makes the greatest case for what's fun about the episodic format.
The ability to put in thirty minutes and get a really rewarding mystery that has an actual resolution and payoff(something lacking from so many serialized dramas) is great.
Plus, each case is a good time because you can get very different tones easily. One episode is a straight up murder mystery, another starts as simple vandalism to become an art world conspiracy, and I just finished one with a missing bride.
The whole case becomes such a fun journey, and I know that the next episode will be something else and have things I didn't expect.
As a comparison, it hits a lot of the same feelings as Leverage or The Librarians does for me. You get interesting set-ups each episode, explore characters in an environment appropriate for said situation, and get constant short term resolution.
As much as I love serialized storytelling and find that more natural for me, I do love the episodic format. If possible I'd love to see it get a whole new life on streamers. Since there is a real joy in what you can do.
Another note before I close this thread. Miss Sherlock also has a thing I love and wish there was more of on American TV. Character and situation specific music.
Every time Miss Sherlock is about to explain the case this music plays that just fucking slaps. But what is added to it is that this music only really plays when she's gonna reveal something, so after a few episodes the music serves as a herald for a story turn.
