Every day this year a #female reporter was targeted for her work! These #women were #arrested, #detained, #raided, #molested, #abducted, #raped, #disappeared & #murdered for bring #news and #information to the public. #ThreatsToWIJ is bleeding out our democracies. Pay attention!

In 2019, the @CFWIJ coined a new category in our spreadsheets: #legal #harassment! This I would call persecution by law! Using the constitution against the constitution. Like #MariaRessa in #Philippine, dozens of #womenjournos in #Iran, #Turkey & #SA are targeted. #ThreatsToWIJ

We notice that #online #trolling against #womenjournalists is increasing exponentially as a global trend. Over 70% of #women #reporters complain of vicious troll usually after they publish a story. It is found to be the most cost effective ways to silence #freepress #ThreatsToWIJ

Some perspective from cases @CFWIJ documented in the first quarter. This threat impact chart shows our research on different kind of threats in the physical world. Online harassment is 4th highest because it has creeped from virtual to physical world for many journo #ThreatsToWIJ

While all of these threats combined are massive, it is possible to counter the problem. #womenjournos are targeted because they are deemed vulnerable. To counter #ThreatsToWIJ, a strong community is the most important. We need to go all out and work together!

Everytime you see a violation take place, speak of it, stand with them, reach out with support, share resources. Organization working on this can’t do it alone. Work together!
