Job scams are getting increasingly harder to spot lately. Earlier this week, I went through an entire interview process and documentation signing. All seemingly legitimate until we got to the next round of interviews, and I was told I had to provide bank app info. #readytowork
It was at this point where they wanted to EMAIL ME A CHECK that the red flags started going up. For those who don't know, copying a check and submitting it electronically is a form of fraud. #unemployment_day #JobSearch
Of course, when I brought this up, they went dark. Apparently, I was not worth the time it was taking to get access to my finances. Pitty, "Daniel Umar" and I were just starting to develop a rapport. I mean, we had been talking for days! #jobscam #ScamAlert
Bioven is not hiring, for the record. #scamster
Here's my new strategy for dealing with job scams claiming to be from legitimate companies. Research the name of the person doing the "interview" and see if they are real. A lot of the times, the names match an employee at the company. #jobpostings
Then, find them on LinkedIn and connect. Mention this in the interview and explain why you are doing it. If the chat window goes blank, you have avoided another job scam. Most of the time, if the person is real, they will oblige, and then you can proceed with the interview #scam
Do not provide any financial information to anyone claiming to be a hiring manager. I know some of these job opportunities seem like the perfect answer, and that some of you are desperate for work. But, the general rule is, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. #jobscam
