Re Labour and values: his excellent paper by Clifford goes explains very effectively why the whole values thing is such a problem for Labour and its voters 1 / https://twitter.com/cliffordsinger/status/1308146438237544451
Jonathan Haidt argues that progressives are missing out on a whole palette of cultural values to draw on in their messaging. Whilst Conservatives draw from all the "moral foundations" listed below, progressives only draw from the first three 2/
But it should be obvious that a progressive politics that seeks to draw on values like "loyalty/betrayal
authority/subversion or sanctity/degradation" is going to fail. It wouldn't be a "progressive" politics at all would it? >>
In addition, Haidt's list of values misses out universal values - thing s like "don't kill people" or "treat others as you'd have them treat yourself" the latter in partic is surely a fine and universal value that a progressive politics can align around.
