10 pieces of workout advice I wish I could have given to my 25 year old self

I've made a lot of mistakes in the gym.

If I could slap my past younger self into a better path this is what I'd say 👇
1. Stop changing your workouts

Instead focus on getting stronger in the squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press, row & hip thrust.

Much of everything else is a distraction.
2. Getting in shape is more science than magic.

Want to gain muscle? Know the science of strength & volume.

Want to lose weight? Know your circadic rhythms & the cost of food.

Knowing the science is like seeing the Matrix of body transformation.
3. Progressive overload is your best friend in the gym. Use it.

For muscles to grow you need to increase the demands placed on them.

This means adding weight, volume & other means of progressive overload to make that happen.

This is as much a law of the gym as it is life.
4. Stop circuit training

Circuit training is inefficient at building muscle & not as effective as one thinks at burning fat.

It's also created more injuries than people would like to admit.

Stop looking to burn fat with your workout. Do that with your diet.

Also remember #1.
5. Track every damn workout

If you don't have a workout app or journal to log your lifts you're playing a losers game.

Progress is impossible without measurement.
6. Recovery is just as important as the days you workout

I know you love the gym but learn to spend time away from it.

In order to grow your muscles need to rest.

If you must be active then take a long walk in nature.
7. Your warm up is just as important as your workout

You want to use the warm up to prime your body for the work ahead.

If you skip your warm up you're asking to eventually get injured.
8. Perfect form over EVERYTHING

There's no point to lifting if you do so horribly.

Focus on perfecting your form and stop chasing numbers.

The best way to make gains is to be patient & methodical.

Which means...
9. Add weight & volume slowly

The slower your progressions is the better your form will be.

As you get closer to your strength potential be content with adding 1-3 lbs to your lifts PER WEEK max.

That number seems small but over the course of 52 weeks they add up.
10. Get a coach

Investing in a coach up front means you get to skip years of toil & trying to figure it out on your own.

Mentors equal speed. Invest in them like your life depended on it.
If there's one thing to leave you with it's this:

"Progressive poundages done in correct form"

If you adhere to this philosophy it'll get you much farther than what everyone else is doing.
Hope you liked the thread.

I wish I could go back in time & slap my younger self into clarity but this will have to do instead.
