My concerns over Broward County School Board's proposed reopening of Oct 5th are numerous, but the crux of the concern is how they have treated our teachers... While students have an option to attend in-person or virtually, no such option was provided to teachers.
Teachers have been given an ultimatum. Show up on Oct 5 in-person OR quit, retire, or take unpaid leave.

I implore the Superintendent to reconsider his recommendation based on the number of teachers, staff, parents, and even School Board Members who have raised concerns.
Mandated in-person instruction with no provided alternatives/accommodations for those in the risk category (because to date, none have actually been provided) poses a risk to the health and safety of our teachers, our students, and their families.
The so-called "survey" sent to teachers put the cart before the horse in a dangerous way. This survey asked teachers to determine what they would do come Oct 5th and would hold them to it. PRIOR to sending the survey, the District should have had all of the plans fully prepared.
Based on my conversations w teachers, District, and DOE, I find the proposal wanting and dangerous

The lack of options for teachers, lack of a plan to keep people safe, and the poor (at best) communication by the District are all reasons the SB should reconsider the Oct 5th date
