I spoke on this a little before but I see a lot of people posting about how high suicide rates are and that we need to “be kind”. No. What we need to do is educate ourselves on what might drive someone to that point. Only caring once someone is suicidal/dead is not good enough.
It’s not just depression. It’s trauma, schizophrenia, abuse, bipolar, anxiety, bereavement, BPD, assault, addiction, eating disorders, the list goes on. Stop using derogatory terms associated w/ mental health. Stop hanging out with abusers. Signpost your friends to help/therapy.
Sharing a hotline number isn’t good enough. You get to speak to someone for 20 minutes nd you won’t get any follow up help to actually solve the root of the problem majority of the time. Charities are stretched thin and have huge waiting lists. Government cuts have fucked us all.
It unfortunately comes down to us teaching ourselves on how to handle friends/family/colleagues who are suffering. Social media posts mean nothing if you’re still giving your friends w/ anxiety grief for not coming out (in the middle of a pandemic no less). Google is your friend.
I’ll never forget when I got diagnosed with BPD and . @eviewrestler said to me she researched it and made her understand the way I am sometimes. It will stick with me forever. A lil education goes a long way!!! 🖤
Sorry for the long thread, I just had a lot of shit I needed to get off my chest. BPD makes me tweet like a loser. Sometimes I’m super mature and sometimes I’m acting 14. Saw my therapist today and feeling refreshed 💪🏻 pic of sleepy sons as a thanks for putting up w/ me 💖
