On the topic of ‘patriotism’: Left wing notions of patriotism must be dispelled with. There is no form of patriotism that can be progressive because patriotism is inherently a right wing concept. 1/

Patriotism is how the nation state inspires loyalty amongst its subjects.

Patriotism is also a tool used to solidify all classes under the nation state. It aims to replace class solidarity with national solidarity. 2/

Nation states mean inherently violent borders, fewer rights for immigrants and oppression of ethnic minority groups. Socialists must fight to chip away at the legitimacy of the nation state - the working class is international and workers all over the world need solidarity. 3/

To see socialism and liberation realised, we must strive for a world without nation states and without borders.

This new jingoist, flag-waving direction for the Party is in no way how to build a multi-racial coalition of the working class. It is not how you stand in solidarity with those of the global south. Instead, it is how you build an imperialist centrist party based on whiteness. 5/5
