I think there's a lot to be be said via this thread by @mattyglesias. The Rs actually are playing in line with the rules. Them's really are the rules! It might seem opportunistic, but I deeply believe there is genuine value in making our institutions more representative. And those reforms will last far longer than our current political fights, because they are fundamentally just.
