[extremely northern irish eyebrow raise] https://twitter.com/DawnHFoster/status/1308371870035705861
are they expecting large scale disorder? im sure bringing in the army won't have any downsides
quick history lesson sending in the army to do policing didn't work very well in northern ireland

it can never happen again
as a human rights professional and law student, one of several reasons being constantly critical of policing is that this will not be enacted in any way approaching justly or fairly.

soldiers on the streets inflamed unrest in northern ireland and it will likely do in england too
the idea that this would be just something to relieve demand on emergency services, and would not continue the racist profiling endemic in uk policing is a nice dream but it's a profoundly impossible one
this is proposed just for england but it is a signal to paramilitaries in northern ireland. it is a very, very dangerous game to play.
idk. im nervous about this sort of thing because my friend was killed just last year by the paramilitaries here in northern ireland. i really hate anything that make that more likely to reoccur, especially when it comes from the damn government
