I wanted to hop back on here to make an observation. Each election cycle I notice something curious *mostly* with white sisters and brothers: “is it worth it to lose friends over politics?” This is also coupled with Christians ignoring politics altogether and being “spiritual”
I say this gently-this is very privileged and I largely don’t see minorities doing this at least Black people. For Black people it *seems* your vote doesn’t exist in some black hole that ceases to touch your ethics, outlook on life, etc. politics is part of life
It is a very weird thing to watch non black people scramble over politics, be “sick of it”, try to not lose friends over it etc. Depending on political views...it can most definitely impact your relationships because of moral/ethical outlook.
Minorities seem to get this because we aren’t at the top of this society. We don’t get the luxury to turn off caring. This election cycle there is an invitation to stop being so self centered y’all. Sure you’re tired of politics. Sure both sides are TRASH. We all still live here
Many minorities didn’t have the right to vote until relatively recent times so it is very hard to hear how white Christians don’t want to talk about politics and focus on God’s kingdom...y’all. He didn’t take us to heaven. We live here and some people live in hell on earth. ✌️
Also-disagreeing about a political candidate is *not* the same as disagreeing about a football team or what kind of coffee creamer you enjoy. Some politicians literally have been in favor or segregation. False equivalencies will be the end of intimacy and decency
