It’s funny the way people who work with autistic children simply cannot transfer the principles that they frequently parrot to autistic adults. I find it quite amusing to watch. Do they think it’s really a childhood thing I’ll give you some examples

Autistic children need to know what is coming next eg now and next cards:

I’m here with 5 tribunal cases with no idea when they will be heard for 9 months now.

Autistic children can struggle with sudden change/surprises.

Dear Mrs O’Autistic

We have a deadline tomorrow could you read through and comment on this working document and get it back to me by 9am?

Autistic children need clear and explicit communication.

Dear Mrs O’Autistic

I’ll be back in touch shortly.

Me: when is shortly

Autistic children can struggle to regulate () emotion.

Them: Have you seen her Tweets today? Goodness me

Autistic children can lack social skills.

Them: Well I think she’s very rude and she’s clearly intelligent so she must know that was rude!

Autistic children may not always communicate clearly.

Me: sends in a document to tribunal which makes perfect sense to me

Them: “she didn’t plead her case with any clarity”

Autistic children can have special interests and may be unaware that the listener is bored.

Them: God she goes on a lot about X or Y - I’ve had to snooze her

Autistic children often do better with visual explanations.

Autistic chikdren can struggle with meeting new people.

Autistic children often favour non verbal written communication:

Them: Thank you for your (ahem ) “lengthy” email.

Or other little digs and inferences about my email communication. Jeez I’ve even had my email communication BANNED !!
