Trying to figure out if I want to use my prompt in an original format or fanfiction

Cuz like, the main characters are gonna be original but if it was a fanfic I could use hella references, interact with existing characters, operate within a world I& #39;m familiar with, etc.
I feel like people who find fan fiction weird undersell the potential to write original ideas in a familiar setting. Sure, it& #39;s less original overall, but you don& #39;t have to spend time creating a unique an interesting setting if you use an already existing one.

Just imo
To clarify, no it isn& #39;t the classic "ship my non cannon otp" or "I want these characters to fuck" kind of fanfic (not that I believe there& #39;s anything wrong with them tbf). I& #39;m just a big fan of the world and what I can have my characters do within it.
I& #39;m not very creative in the world building department, and yet I refuse to write almost anything that doesn& #39;t have fantasy elements of some kind involved. I also fear implementing things, expanding upon them, and then creating plot holes or inconsistencies.
Not that I NEVER create my own settings and worlds to work with, just that I never feel satisfied with them, or just feel that something is almost always off.
Yeah Idk why I ranted about this at 3am, when literally none of my followers will ever be interested in what I have to say regarding this topic lol

Prolly gonna delete this thread as soon as I wake up but for now I& #39;ll just leave it here
