For the last 150 years, there has been a war between electric cars and polluting cars.

There were three major battles. (A thread)
The first cars were actually electric. As early as 1870 you could buy a variety of electric car models. They were pretty popular.

So what happened?

In 1908, Ford Model T started a battle — and they won.

Most electric cars stopped production by 1910. The EV was dead.
The second battle happened in 1910, with the California ZEV mandate and the GM EV1.

But OEMs resented being forced to go electric, and the powers that be killed the electric car.

They gathered all EV1s and crushed them up at the dump. Once again, the EV was dead. Gas won again
Today we’re witnessing the third battle. And just like before, those who want to preserve the status quo fought to kill the EV.

They didn’t just want to crush our cars. They tried to crush our hearts and our souls, with social media as their weapon.

We bled. But we fought back.
With the short burn, record sales, and amazing EVs from every OEM, it may seem like the battle is won. But it’s not.

Today Tesla launches the final attack that will fundamentally rework the math that has made EVs more expensive.

Batteries are the weapon that win this battle.
So here we are. Welcome to Battery Day

We’ve already proven that an EV can be better than a gas car, in every way — except one: price

Today, Tesla unveils their plan to solve that problem & scale battery production to levels needed to remake the energy infrastructure of Earth
Today, we launch our final attack to win this battle.

It’s time to end a war that’s been fought for 150 years.

It’s time to kill polluting cars.

Battery day begins at 1:30 PM California time.
