Men wanting to work against gender based violence against women is great, you are most welcome! We need more men talking about violence against women, girls, young boys and men. 1/n
However we do not need men to call themselves our daju and bhai, it just promotes a protectionist lens of men as protectors of women and girls. Why not think it as part of responsibility of everyone! 2/n
It would also be wonderful if men wanting to be ally to work against GBV if they talk about toxic masculinity and how it has affected them and others in their lives, instead of posing as a super human there to save women. 3/n
The most important part Men who has perpetuated violence directly or indirectly SHOULD TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY OF THEIR ACTIONS. Violence here does not only mean physical violence but could be emotional, mental, psychological as well 4/n
Also an important note MEN IS NOT A HOMOGENEOUS GROUP. There are men with less power in our structure - indigenous, dalit, gender queer, young boys who are marganised by those in power and privileges over them 5/n
Being born in cis-gender men body, YOU CARRY PRIVILEGES that needs to be acknowledged and be cautious of. First and important tip: LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU, listen to women and marginalised voices, let them be the expert of their lives. 6/6
