New England ran 3 QB power plays from the 1-yard line in jumbo personnel. All 3 went right at LJ Collier who was aligned heads up on rookie backup lineman Mike Onwenu.
The first two plays result in walk-in touchdowns for Cam Newton.
In power, a gap scheme run, the OL are all blocking away from a particular gap. Here, Onwenu (#71) is trying to wall LJ inside. On the first play, he manages it easily and LJ gets driven back into the endzone. On the second, LJ does a better job but the pile moves him in any way.
We all knew what this was building up to.
The Pats come back to this same QB power concept with 3 seconds left in the game. This time, Collier gets great first contact on Onwenu's outside shoulder and drives past him, submarining Cam Newton for the game-winning stop!
In this thread, I've called them the same QB Power concept, but they aren't exactly the same play.
@pff_seth did a great short breakdown on the difference between the QB power, with a pulling G and kick out FB (plays 2&3) and the counter (play 1). https://twitter.com/pff_seth/status/1308046371946147840?s=20
