Keir Starmer being introduced by Ruth Smeeth, former MP who clashed with Corbyn https://labour.org.uk/labour-connected/watch-labour-connected/
"A new leadership of our party determined to eliminate the stain of antisemitism"
Starmer on the PM: "While he was being sacked by a newspaper for making up quotes, I was fighting for justice and the rule of law"
"When you lose an election in a democracy, you deserve to. You don’t look at the electorate and ask them: 'What were you thinking?' You look at yourself and ask: 'What were we doing?'"
"The Tories have had as many election winners in 5 years as we’ve had in 75" [Cameron, May, Johnson: Attlee, Wilson, Blair]
Daring mention of Blair by name: "All three of the post-war Labour winners – Attlee, Wilson and Blair – saw it as their task to modernise Britain"
"When you look back to 1945, 1964 and 1997 you learn an important lesson. The lesson is don’t look back, look to the future" (Look back; don't look back)
"What we say at the next general election isn’t written yet. But it will be rooted in Labour values. It won’t sound like anything you’ve heard before. It will sound like the future arriving"
Momentum responds: ““Keir Starmer taking the fight to Boris Johnson today is welcome, but...”
Constructive opposition to the constructive Opposition
I thought it really well written & well delivered; a bit leader's-speech-by-numbers & a bit dull, but the pitch is "competent & serious"
