how NFR! should have been structured to sound more cohesive (in my opinion)

a thread...
1. Norman Fucking Rockwell

it's undeniable this is the perfect opener for the album and lana always has the best title tracks, period. the tone and essence of the album is perfectly captured and it sets the expectations in perspective for the rest of the record.
2. Fuck it, I love you

the song is fast paced, lighter and summery. a good juxtaposition of tone and mood from NFR. this allows the listeners to breathe. lana talks about chilling with her boo and who she is/what she wants.
3. Doin' Time

this track expands on the vibe and energy that was set by FIILY and i think the songs are quite tonally similar. a very upbeat and a very fun song
4. How to Disappear (stripped)

this song isn't exactly the best and the christmas bells ruin it for me but the stripped version is beautiful and is nostalgic and dreamy. she sings about sad things, but it's over a very happy and pleasant rhythm. middle ground between 2 tones.
5. Cinnamon

in many ways, the perfect track 5. a clearly dark tone which was lightly introduced on track four but is now more palpable in the music. moves the album further into deeper discussions which were not had previously in the first 4 tracks
6. California

this track is very raw and emotional, more than cinnamon as well. further transitions the album into a specific dark, gloomy tone as lana contemplates heartbreak and betrayal.
7. hope is a dangerous thing...

arguably the lowest and most emotional song of the album. the positioning after so many emotional tracks has the potential to trigger the maximum emotional response from the listener.
8. Venice Bitch

venice bitch is kind of the 'nights - frank ocean' of this album because it is long and has the ability to put the listener into a different type of mood than they were previously. the song ends on a hopeful note and heals the listener from the painful emotions.
9. The Next Best American Record

now this is a crucial character shift in lana. for the majority of the album she is vulnerable and needs her man desperately. but all of a sudden she comes and says 'fuckoff i'm a baddie' and the song is all about her own identity.
10. Bartender

bartender is a vulnerable song but a different kind of vulnerability. she's finding herself again after the things she has talked about facing throughout the album and going back to who she used to be.
11. In Your Car

FUCK 'Love Song' this song will always be called in your car in my heart idgaf

but this song is very beautiful and gentle and it shows her accepting her lover and making amends (thanks for the high life). she feels happy and whole once again.
12. Mariner's Apartment Complex

a very happy song which portrays lana as the strong, positive thinking woman lana hs become over the years of her career.
13. Happiness is a Butterfly

one of lana's most beautiful songs on the album, and through the song she comes to realise her capabilities and what she wants in life truly.
14. The Greatest

the greatest is a perfect end to the album because while it is on the moodier side, its a very calm song. while she still isn't completely happy with the world and with her life, she is reminiscing and is happy. while she's apprehensive, she's positive.
end of thread ❤️
