Fave Shirbert Scenes: #1, Part 2
Going back to my last point, I really do think Gilbert took Winnie’s advice (paraphrasing here because it hurts my soul to rewatch those scenes) about every now and then breaking the rules of propriety. In a sly way of course.

Of course there’s nothing sly about how he went about it but their classmates are apparently blind so it didn’t matter. I don’t think he would have done it had Anne not been receptive to his heart eyes and been throwing her own back at him.

At this point, as far as they’re concerned, they’re the only two people in the room. They have eyes for no one but each other. It’s a turning point in their relationship. The feelings they’ve tried to hide have surfaced and won’t be easily hidden again.

What are the odds that Mary’s words are running through his head? Considering what he asked Bash afterwards, I’d say the odds are good. They’re both caught up in the moment. Anne is thinking of storybook romances and Gilbert of marriage.

Forget the take notice board! This is a notice to end all notices. Big ups to Caleb for again making sure the lines go smoothly as Gilbert once again fails to change places. Gilbert is not going to pass up the chance to end the dance face to face with Anne.

This scene is obviously inspired by the dance scenes in Austen novels. It works since Anne herself is a fan of the books and Gilbert has brought life to all of her romantic ideals. He is her own Mr. Darcy. The only boy who could match her wit and intelligence.

Gilbert snaps out of his daze to realize that Anne is still looking at him the way he looks at her. Is he finally going to hear what’s he’s been wanting to? He seems apprehensive, but he’s ready to hear those words. Her response to his notice.

..and because we can’t have nice things, Anne snaps out of it and walks away without a word. She can’t process her feelings yet. She’s overwhelmed but Gilbert takes it as a rejection. He’ll probably send a note later to invite someone to the fair after this
