NZ COVID Tracer daily scan counts are dropping fast. We didn't even have to drop alert levels before people have become complacent - behaviour change hasn't been sustained and people are returning to old behaviours.
To help with seeing the trend of QR code scan counts, a weekly snapshot:
10 Aug (second wave appears this week): 30k
17 Aug: 977k
24 Aug: 1.4mil
31 Aug (Auckland at Level 2.5 this week): 1.7mil
7 Sep: 2mil with a peak this week around 2.5mil
14 Sep: 1.6mil
21 Sep: 1.4mil
I think we'll probably see the trend continue downwards unless there's another outbreak of cases. It shows that overall we are a population that responds, rather than prepares. It's hard to see our population achieving 60, 70, 80% uptake of any other digital approach.
So I don't know who still needs to see this, but please keep using the NZ COVID Tracer app or otherwise keeping track of where you have been, because if you get COVID-19, contact tracers will need at least 14 days of movement records to help contain the spread.
And if someone else gets COVID-19, contact tracers will use those 14 days of records to help identify people who may have been exposed, which could be you. So play your part in protecting both yourself and others. By all accounts,
being infected with COVID-19 is not a good time.
Here's daily scan count data from the NZ COVID Tracer app from 10 August onwards (second wave announcement was on evening of 11 August). Slight dips on weekends. Peaking at 2.5mil scanned on 4-5 September, now trending down with 1.4mil for noon-noon Sunday 20-Monday 21.
A reminder also that even under level 1, it is still mandatory for businesses to display QR codes. If you see a business without one, please ask them nicely and give them a chance to rectify it. Remind them that it can help protect their staff if needed.

Displaying a QR code is still mandatory at Level 1. If someone doesn't believe you, show them the Public Health Response Order. It also says that an infringement offence could lead to an infringement fee up to $300 or a fine by the Courts of up to $1000.
