The Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 had a small wave in the spring. We had a wave in the spring.
That 1st wave isn& #39;t why people remember it. (If they do at all.) It was the 2nd wave that peaked in the fall.

There are similarities:
Masks were enforced & fought as draconian freedom stealing tyrannical actions. Just look up newspapers from Australia during 1918. People were fined $100s of dollars. Back then! For not wearing masks.

The Summer came, COVID-19 hung on while the Spanish flu died down. They are different beasts. This is less contagious, but more sneaky in its incubation.

We don& #39;t have the calm before the storm mentality that the Summer of 1918 allowed. (Heck, I don& #39;t even think any of that enforcement happened pre-Oct bcuz that wave was so small. Maybe I& #39;m under cutting my whole argument with this realization. But I& #39;ll continue in order to see.)
Today there are those actively defying caution and common decency. Even actively showing contempt towards their own health and others.
Couple that with the majority just going along as lax as allowable in polite society settings.
And finally the rest of us, utterly drained.

It& #39;s hard to be conscious of your actions 100% of the day. What micro habits we& #39;ve still not reformed are undercutting and exhausting to keep on top of.
Then there the peer pressure to just simply relax and go back to any kind of slice of normality.

A friend or two over. Going to the bar to catch up and try to watch any type of sports. Visiting family up state (or a few over.) A cabin trip with your kids & your buddies and their kids.

This complacency brought on by exhaustion for a chance, a hope, to regain what once was.
This is how we& #39;ll end up suffering an unimaginable autumn and winter.

The numbers are lowering right now bc we (the few doing extreme caution, the many doing bare minimum, and the worst... doing the worst) are currently doing what we need to in order to keep them at this lower level. (Which isn& #39;t even low!)
Relaxing will shoot them right back up!

Not enough are doing enough in order for everyone to get a shot at normalcy.

We need more being kind & thoughtful of their actions & the impact on others. We can& #39;t give in to the greed & selfishness that comes hand in hand w/ Halloween season.

We still don& #39;t know what tricks this coronavirus has in store of us. We do know it loves comorbidities and cold & flu season is here.
We can& #39;t drop our guards. Not with these ghouls at the helm. Not with the peer pressure rising "oh, it& #39;s just a beer & a lake visit w/ friends."

We think we& #39;re prepared? We weren& #39;t even prepared for the 1st wave & it barely just peaked.
