at the end of the month, i will be taking an indefinite hiatus from full time work. I'm hoping there is still time to reverse the damage to my health before the pains become permanent.
i feel incredibly privileged that this is a move i can afford to take right now. i have enough stashed away & enough folks willing to work with me on my own schedule so I will be okay financially. it feels scary to be doing this in a pandemic, but it feels like the right choice
one thing i would really love to do more of in this down time is mentoring. what I have to offer is likely different to most folks offering mentorships (free!!). some notes below about who this might work best for
- you face multiple structural barriers in tech
- you do value front end as a discipline and not just as a stepping stone to learn back end
- you believe that disabled people have a fundamental right to access the internet and want to build things in a way that disabled people can use them
- you have some overlap with my timezone (GMT+8). (AKA not during US working hours)
- you want to learn from someone who's entire career has been remote/freelance, not large companies
- you do not have a CS degree/tech bg (i studied fine arts!) and want to leverage those skills
it might not be a good fit if:
- your greatest dream is to work for a FAANG company
- you want coding interview/algorithm question advice
(no disrespect if this is you, i just do not have experience with these things so there are people out there who could help you more than i!)
i have no idea what the reception to this will be! dms open!
