Today is day 31 of a strict carnivore diet to limit my intake to as few variables as possible. Literally just consumed meat, eggs, and water for a month. My thoughts, results, and plans going forward are as follows.
I anticipated this would be challenging. However, I am a disciplined person and never enjoyed food the same way the people around me do. To me, eating has been a chore. That being said, this was MUCH more difficult than I thought it would be. It is not for the faint of heart.
I am also lean and mostly muscle. (165lbs when I started) I know a lot of people try carno for weight loss. That was not my goal, I continued to workout hard throughout the month and ate multiple pounds of meat per day.
However, I still lost about 7lbs. I assume mostly water weight and maybe a pound or two of fat max. I did not lose any strength, but I did not gain any either. I did have a noticeable drop in recovery during my workouts.
Exercise aside, my energy levels were thru the roof. Crystal clear thinking and absolutely no need for caffeine or any stimulus to get thru the day. Fasting was also very easy. 24hrs was no problem.
No feeling of lethargy after meals. All meals were very satiating and I never felt bloated or hungry after meals. A little goes a long way with meat, and if I wanted to chow down on 2-3 pounds of food I could do that too with no issues.
Now I will begin implementing new foods into my diet, one at a time. Carefully analysing how each new food affects me to weed out any slight allergies and build a solid foundation for a fresh diet from the ground up.
Overall, I would say it has been one hell of a learning experience and I recommend it for anyone looking to hone in their diet, lose weight, or deal with any misc health issues since there is lots of anecdotal evidence it helps with various autoimmune disorders.
The last thing I will add to this thread is that my sleep improved quite a bit as well. I felt better when I woke up, but besides my subjective experience my sleep tracker gave me some valuable data. On average, my deep sleep over tripled, and my REM sleep when up about 25%.
There is so much more to talk about when it comes to carno, not even touching on the upside for kicking the seed oils, sugar, caffeine and processed foods. So, AMA if you're curious, but I'm closing this thread here.
