FYI men, if you shave that’s a form of physical exfoliation and if you notice your skin become dry, irritated or sensitive then you’re over exfoliating & could lead to a damaged skin barrier. A damaged barrier is more susceptible to breakouts and irritation (a thread) [1]
When shaving i recommend this trimmer from @PhilipsNorelco bc it gets really close to the grain but if you must use a razor I say use the electric one first to get as close to the skin as possible then follow up with your traditional razor. Use a gel/cream with a lot of slip to-
Reduce irritation as much as possible. I personally don’t use a razor to shave (I just trim) but this is one of the shaving creams I do enjoy when I do. (2)
If you get ingrowns I recommend the @PaulasChoice 2% BHA or Fur oil because of the Salycilic acid but use it at least a day or two after shaving so you don’t cause any further irritation-
Now for the most important thing, your skin barrier. These two are my favorite for keeping a healthy skin barrier and you can use them in the am/pm depending on how you skin can handle each. At night follow up with a substantial moisturizer if needed (3)
Most importantly WEAR SUNSCREEN! You need to protect your skin even more now that it has trauma from the physical exfoliation (razor) these are some of my favorites! (Non greasy and work for most skin types)
Did you find this thread helpful? (Disclaimer: I’m not an esthetician or dermatologist but this is what I’ve found work best + I’ve learned a lot over the years about my skin & what’s best for it thought my esthetician/dermatologist friends and my own research)
