(1/5) Short thread. 🧵

The doubling time - i.e., the number of days it takes new cases to go from 100 to 200, or 200 to 400, or 400 to 800 -- has shortened considerably.

Why has this happened?
What does it mean we need to do now? https://twitter.com/EdTubb/status/1308173290163376128
(2/5) Why has the doubling time shortened?

(1) more contacts than last month (schools, workplaces, etc.)

(2) test turnaround time is increasing, so case management & contact tracing starts later

(3) so, people mix with others, without knowing they are infected
(3/5) What can we do about this?

Individually, we should all do what we are supposed to do - stick to one small bubble, physically distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, and get tested when sick.

But it's not just on us as individuals.
(4/5) Public health is all about population-based strategies - think chlorination, fluoridation, sewage systems, walkable neighbourhoods, food safety, etc.

Public health can help us make better choices.
(5/5) What are the population-based strategies that will help us contain Covid-19?

1. Close indoor dining/bars.
2. Encourage work from home.
3. Support businesses & employees.
4. Smaller classes.
5. Move university/college classes online.
6. #TestTraceIsolate like the best.
