Before the narrative gets completely shifted I want to ground myself and others about today’s win.

It is undocumented people who won this, at the fine print of strategy, direct action and research on how and who to go after it’s the resilience of directly impacted folks.

Prior to July 20th many folks didn’t know about ICE at the jail.... guess who did know?

The immigrant community.

When it was time to power map who led the power mapping sessions? Immigrant people.

Often organizers don’t get credit but they are the ones doing the heaviest lift working within our communities to defy “power”, those are the biggest wins.

There are folks who will not get to celebrate today’s news because they are still working on coming out the shadows

There are folks who had their loved ones deported, folks who are still in proceedings, etc.

At the core of today’s win is not jus the last year of advocacy it’s the over a decade of community outreach and engagement that has exposed the role of the Oklahoma County Jail plays

into the deportation pipeline in OKC.

So regardless if you are in the streets or not.

My people... this is your win
