@ non chinese folks in this fandom, please think a little before tweeting out your spicy takes about wangxian being communist. its not like chinese people have a troubled and traumatic relationship with communism or anything

guess ill explain, yes. ppl look at china and go "they're not communist! look at all the shopping malls!" but also think about a few things.

1) that chinese ppl have always been associated with communism thanks to the political fiascos of the world, adding on to whatever racism they already face outside of china.

2) this doesnt mean that it communism wasn't attempted in china back in the 50s & 60s. u can argue all about how that wasnt 'true communism' but that's not really the point, is it? because thats what it was called.

and the consequence of that was that real lives were hurt. talk to any chinese person anywhere and ask about what their grandparents/parents' lives were like. i can assure you, they will talk about starvation and war and death so easily you just wanna ask how they are still okay

sure, you can say "i'm not talking about that! im talking about like, the communism i learned in my marxist theory in my fancy degree." yes, but this also means you care more about your political worldview than understanding that chinese folks, particularly in this fandom

are often chinese immigrants who associate the word "communism" with their trauma, not with your fancy marxist theory.

so tldr, you can say whatever you want, like i dont care, but just know that sometimes people have gone through a lot of shit that you dont know, and thats okay, but like, maybe respect that, or dont i really dont care

also, last thing, when ppl go "if you dont want communist wangxian do you want liberal/conservative wangxian?" like. you know that only american politics works like this right, on like a left/right two party whatever. also wangxian is. literally from fantasy ancient china, chill
