Interested in an industry postdoc? @genentech started an annual application process for the Postdoc Program alongside the regular hiring process! A great thing about the postdoc program is that you join an active community of ~120 postdocs! http://bit.ly/GenentechPostdoc2020
As a current postdoc I have learned a lot about research at a large biotech that seemed like a black box before I started. As part of the postdoc committee I have also organized events to build community, enhance the postdoc experience and improve the postdoc program overall!
What have I learned exactly? 1) how it feels to be paid a ~reasonable~ wage (it can always be better!) 2) how to do science in the fast and expensive way vs the slow and cheap way 3) how do you go from discovery biology to medicine (kinda, but there's tons of opportunities)
4a) asking other scientists and researchers for help is actually easier since they view it as their job and they're getting paid well 4b) people are also willing to help probably because helping your project doesn't extend their grad school/postdoc years
5) having an HR is ~actually~ great after being in academia so long 6) what an employee resource group is 7) how to do diversity, equity, and inclusion work in a corporate setting (still can be frustrating like academia, but we can afford to bring in experts for workshops!)
