#Vikings landed on English shores on 865, this time, to STAY for good.

1 area they invaded/settled in was Nottingham.

We know bc Anglo-Saxon Chronicles say, "In this year..the (Danish) army went into Mercia & Nottingham & took up winter quarters there."(mercian)

For the time, Vikings moved back to York (Jorvik), but #LikeaViking they came back!

In 877,fighting Alfred of Wessex,Vikings split & colonized what would be 5 Danelaw boroughs Nottingham included

In 878, Alfred won against King Guthrum, but knew he had to live w/ #Vikings. England split in half, aka, Danelaw.

This let Vikings have 5 boroughs (Nottingham,Derby,Leicester,Lincoln,& Stamford)

Nottingham now belonged to Vikings, who set laws in Sherwood Forest..

Sherwood Forest has 3 Wapentakes (Bassetlaw, Thurgarton & Broxtowe) where Viking Officials made laws, settled cases.

Now, Nottingham will for sure be filled with #Vikings or Danes. It's a Viking Town, it has to be at some point.

I think Sherwood Forest may be used for town meetings, making crucial laws, settling disputes among Nottingham's people.
