26 souls taken by violence. Tragic but now those memories are used by the Human Rights Campaign and others as political fodder. First off Summer Taylor was a young woman protesting in the street when she was struck and killed by a car. This was not due to her identity as she was not even trans but non-binary. So there’s really only 25 on the list. 1/
Of those 25, 5 (20%) were killed in Puerto Rico. 4 TW and 1 TM. 4 motives unknown with one being killed in prison. Neulisa Luciano Ruiz however can be attributed to transphobia. Homeless, She was accused on socmed of peeping on girls in a public bathroom. Killed by a mob. 2/
4 black TW on the list have been used in the addition of Trans to BLM. But none of those were killed by cops. The 2 that were, Tony McDade a black TM and Jayne Thompson a white TW are rarely mentioned w/ McDade sometimes oddly mentioned as a TW. 3/
Tony McDade got into a fight with the son of his GF bc Tony was beating her. Tony posted on FBlive showing that someone gave him a gun with no bullets and he was going to get revenge. Police were called the next day after a fight.Tony was shot by officers for wielding a knife. 4/
Police were called on Jayne Thompson after being found unresponsive on the ground. This has been attributed to drug use. When Jayne regained consciousness she attacked the cops on the scene with a 10 inch knife. They shot and killed her. 5/
The TW associated with BTLM I’ve discussed before. But to reiterate none of them were killed in transphobic incidents: Dominique Fells was said to know her killer, a Trans & BLM supporter, Ankh Jones, still on the loose. 6/
Rhia Milton was killed in an attempted robbery/car jacking. It was evil but not an identity based hate crime. 7/
Monika Diamond called an ambulance after feeling short of breath. She asked if her friend Prentice Bess could come in the ambulance. The EMT’s refused and he came back w/ a gun and shot into the ambulance. The story has been told she was the target but it makes no sense. 8/
“Lexi” was a TW prostitute who was stabbed by another TW prostitute. Witnesses say it was a fight over a wig. Not a transphobic attack. 9/
Dustin Parker, TM, was shot while driving a Taxi on NYE. No suspect, no motive. 10/
Johana Metzger, TW, was stabbed in a Baltimore Rehab facility, no motive no suspect named. 11/
Helle O’Regan, TW, was one of three people stabbed in an act of violence in a barbershop over a payment dispute. 12/
Nina Pop was stabbed in her home by Joseph B. Cannon, no motive is known, no hate crime charges filed but Cannon has a rap sheet which includes illegal firearm possession and an assault on a woman. 13/
Selena Reyes Hernandez is the 2nd victim on this list who no doubt was murdered due to transphobia, Orlando Perez, admitted to leaving her apt after finding out she was a TW and returned killing her in cold blood. Horrible. 14/
Brian “Egypt” Powers, local reports make it unclear if they were a TW who retained their birth sex pronouns or TM. Found shot through the leg no motive nor a suspect has been found. 15/
Brayla Stone, was reported to have been killed in a hit for $5k. But Arkansas police say there’s no evidence it was a bias crime. Trevone Miller, 18, her killer, on bail for firearms possession, robbery & ID theft had avoided prison for a previous murder/robbery by snitching. 16/
Merci Mack was killed over an apparent revenge porn blackmail scheme. Angelo Walker killed her after she threatened to post a video of them. This is the 3rd case that falls under transphobia. 17/
Shaki Peters, TW, was found dead in Louisiana no suspect and no motive as of yet. Draya McCarty, TW,not on this list was also found dead nearby but not ruled a homicide. 18/
Bree Black was killed in a crowded Florida Beach, despite the crowd no suspect nor a motive was found. 19/
Marilyn Cazares, TW, lived on the street despite having family in the area and suffered drug addiction. She was found in an abandoned house stabbed and burned. No suspect no motive. 20/
Queasha Hardy, TW, was found shot, no motive nor suspect yet known. 21/
Aja Raquell Rhone-Spears, TW and a friend were stabbed at a party after a vigil for homicide victim, Tyrell Penney, in Portland. No motive nor suspects yet known. 22/
The last case is quite confusing but nonetheless shows no proof of transphobia. Tiffany Harris/Dior H Ova is listed in non LGBT reports as Kemar Soloman. Their mother describes them as a gay man who would sometimes cross dress. Alpha Diallo hired the victim for sex but.. 23/

Out of 25 listed, only 3 w/ a definite transphobic basis of violence. Prostitution, drugs, & poverty ridden crime stricken neighborhoods held more impact than the identity of the victims. Yet thrown in the face of women trying defend themselves against the violence of men
I would do a thread on women killed in 2020 but it would take me months to years to tabulate and dissect.
