That context is important. The issue is not whether one believes in their work being for "building the kingdom of God". The issue is what that has meant for conservative Christians and American public life. Please don't act like people haven't been having this conversation.
I know there is a want to protect our Christian story, especially evangelicals wanting to preserve some moral goodness in their Christian tradition. I get it. But don't act like the skepticism is out of thin air. That's just dishonest. Not simply so, but disrespectful too.
It is not simply semantics, but we are talking about Trump here and what the vision of white Christian America actualized through laws and practices has meant for us all. Don't ask people to take a leap of faith when Trump has shown us who he is and who he believes in.
