President Trump’s move to push through a Supreme Court nominee is rightfully drawing attention to the Trump admin’s ongoing attempt to overturn the Affordable Care Act through the courts.
I thought I’d share a few resources on what it would mean for Trump to get his way 1/

If successful, the lawsuit Trump supports would cause 20 million to lose coverage and put 135 million with pre-existing conditions at risk (those are pre-COVID estimates)
This page shows what that means in every state (858k lose coverage in PA alone) 2/ https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/healthcare/news/2020/03/02/480997/affordable-care-act-repeal-state/">https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/he...

With people no longer able to stay on parents’ plans till 26, the # of young adults uninsured would rise 74% -- by 8.8 million 3/ https://www.urban.org/sites/default/files/publication/100409/qs_txvus_repeal_of_aca_03a_-_near_final_1.pdf%E2%80%BA">https://www.urban.org/sites/def...
Very partial list of protections at risk:
- Ppl w/ pre-existing conditions could be denied coverage
- Coverage of essential benefits no longer required
- Older ppl could be charged much higher premiums
- Annual + lifetime limits could be restored 4/ https://www.kff.org/health-reform/fact-sheet/potential-impact-of-texas-v-u-s-decision-on-key-provisions-of-the-affordable-care-act/">https://www.kff.org/health-re...

Medicare would be affected, too: Medicare prescription drug costs would go up and Medicare’s solvency would be put at risk 5/ https://www.cbpp.org/blog/aca-lawsuit-threatens-tens-of-millions-of-medicaid-medicare-beneficiaries">https://www.cbpp.org/blog/aca-...
People with employer-sponsored coverage would not be immune, either: for example, “your employer plan could refuse to cover preexisting conditions for up to a year if you failed to maintain continuous coverage” 6/ https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/14/opinions/trump-administrations-threat-to-coverage-for-preexisting-conditions-jost/index.html">https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/1...
And on top of all that, Trump’s lawsuit would cut coverage for 20+ million and end insurance protections while providing an average tax cut of $198,000 PER YEAR to the top 0.1% of earners 7/ http://www.cbpp.org/research/health/aca-repeal-lawsuit-would-cut-taxes-for-top-01-percent-by-an-average-of-198000">https://www.cbpp.org/research/...
Trump gets fact-checked for promising a health care plan that never materializes. I don& #39;t quite agree: The repeal lawsuit IS Trump& #39;s health care plan. It& #39;s what he has called for and his lawyers have worked to achieve: full repeal of the ACA, without anything in its place. 8/
We can’t predict exactly how the Court will rule. But we do know what the Trump administration’s position is – which would result in all of these consequences and more – and every reason to think a Trump appointment to the Court would make them more likely /end
