A thread with a lot of pictures from driving with @Spartacus_5 (red M3P) and @nopsledge (white M3P) on the Großglockner High Alpine road.
The highest point we reached by car was at 2572 m (8438 ft).
Dashcam video coming soon.
👇
Met up with @Spartacus_5 at the Tesla Supercharger in St. Georgen (Upper Austria). GoPro mounted directly under the windshield this time.

Met a Audi e-tron sportback near Mondsee.
Driving trough Salzburg. Speed limits can be ignored in electric cars with Austrian EV plates ofc.
Driving further south in the Austrian alps.

Werfen castle visible on the right in the second picture.

The famous outdoor scene was filmed on one of those meadows to the right on the third picture by the way.
I messed up and took the wrong turn to the left. Was rewarded with some nice scenerey though.

@Spartacus_5 waiting for me at a rest area. They had free chargers there!
Autopilot driving us towards the Großglockner.
Met up with @nopsledge and his wife. (The white Model 3 Performance.)
Time to mount a GoPro on @Spartacus_5 cars fender.

The toll for the High Alpine Road is 10€ less for EVs!
Cows ahead. Actually turned out to be a VW ID.3 and ID.4 mule. 😉

Awesome scenery already in the first few bends.
Time for the first photoshoot.
A whole groupe of classic tractors and another Model 3.

In the middle of that tunnel you cross from Salzburg into Carintha.
Stopping at a charging station at a height of 2504m (8215 ft.)
One charging outlet was blocked off so we kept driving.
Some sheep crossed the street.

Also some roadworks with "cones" to keep the car busy while it doesn't have to drive itself.

Driving towards the glacier.
Arrival at the famous charging station near the glacier. Charging is free of course. 😊
We had some very late lunch with a view of the Großglockner and it's glacier.

The Großglockner is, at 3,798 metres above the Adriatic (12,461 ft), the highest mountain in Austria.
Unfortunately it is rapidly shrinking. Here is a picture of my grandma standing on ice in the mid 1950s where nowadays you only find the glacier lake.

The guy next to her in the first picture is my granpa.
The Großglockner High Alpine road is also a good location to spotrs marmots. We were lucky and saw one.

There is ofc a traffic sign for them.
The sun was already setting when we left the restaurant and the temperature started to drop.
The drive back was really nice. A lot less cars and orange glowing mountains everywhere.
We decided to drive up the the old cobblestone road to the highest point of the road. The so called Edelweißspitze. (Dutch Model 3 drriver waving at us!)
That original part of the road is a lot steeper and narrower than the rest of the route. Especially with oncoming traffic.
The parking lot at the top was still quite busy...
... but we found a nice spot anyway. Wouldn't have been a good idea to drive trough the fence I guess. 😆

The red paint of @spartacus Model 3 was really glowing in the last light of the day. 😍
A breathtaking view, hard to describe in words.
I should really rent one of the roams at the inn up here one day. Sunrise must be amazing too.
With the sun going down behind the mountains we started the drive down the mountain.
At one parking lot we tunred around because.. the street was basically empty and there was still some light. 😏
In the Model 3 LR AWD I noticed why the Performance is called Performance. 😭
After some fun we drove down the mountain, grabbed something to eat and made our way back home.

Not much to report besides a drunk cone. 😋
