HABITS:

1. The Power of Habit by @cduhigg

An all-time classic on how habits govern our lives. Every worthwhile self-help book written after it builds on the information here.

2. Atomic Habits by @JamesClear

Power of Habit is the theory.

Atomic Habits is the practical how-to guide of using habit-change to improve your life.

3. Better Than Before by @gretchenrubin

Also a how-to guide on habit-change. Stylistically different from Atomic Habits.

I suggest reading both.

If you pick one, math/science/engineer types should read AH, and art/literature types should read BTB.

INTERPERSONAL

4. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

This is the single book that had the biggest impact on me, in terms of changing the way I thought and acted.

THINKING

5. Thinking Fast and Slow by @DanielKahneman

Explains how humans think irrationally. This is useful for understanding your own mind, as well as the minds of others.

6. The Honest Truth About Dishonesty by @danariely

I love every Dan Ariely book, but this one is especially great for the way it explains how we lie to ourselves.

7. Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics by @danbharris

This is a great pragmatic how-to guide for meditation, featuring a lot of specific meditations for neophytes to try out.

Without any hippie-dippy mysticism.

8. Feeling Good by @DavidDBurnsMD

Apply the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to make yourself happier.

Even if you're suffering from actual medical depression.

9. Factfulness by Hans Rosling, @AnnaRRonnlund, and @OlaRosling

Most people wouldn't call this a self-help book.

But by showing that the world is much better off than is portrayed in the media, it will significantly improve your mood.

MONEY

10. Dollars and Sense by @danariely and @jeffkreislerBS

12. Superbetter by @avantgame

Explains how to gamify your self-improvement.

Very different from any other self-help book I've ever read, and something I often reference/recommend.

13. When by @DanielPink

Explains how to optimize the timing of when you do certain kinds of tasks.
