We are incredibly disappointed to announce that @MajoritySpeaks leadership has said they will not voluntarily recognize our union. Instead, FMF would prefer that we go to the Trump labor board for an election. (1/13)
The @NLRB election process is notoriously anti-worker, especially under administrations like Trump’s, and employers often take advantage of the process to deny employees of their union. (2/13)
It’s shameful that FMF leaders would choose to go to the NLRB, instead of working collaboratively with us on a card-check agreement which would allow our union to be certified through a simple, unbiased, democratic process. (3/13)
In an email sent Friday on behalf of @MajoritySpeaks’ Board of Directors, staff were reminded that “the Feminist Majority Foundation is, and always has been, strongly pro-union. Indeed, one of the Foundation’s Directors is a long-time union leader.” @DoloresHuerta (4/13)
However, the email also read: “the only way to ensure that representation is truly desired by Foundation employees and that employees are free from coercion, intimidation and untoward pressure is to invoke the processes of the National Labor Relations Board.” (5/13)
It signed off with, “In the meantime, we are confident that all employees are as dedicated as are we to the critical work in which the Foundation is engaged as the November 3, 2020 election approaches and that the Foundation’s vital efforts move forward effectively.” (6/13)
The irony of this message is suffocating. Being sent to the NLRB for an election, under a Trump administration, all WHILE we are actively fighting every day against his reelection … the audacity. (7/13)
We ARE dedicated to the critical work leading up to this year’s election. Our lives--our futures--are the ones at stake here, and we do not take that lightly. (8/13)
However, the time is now, and yesterday, and tomorrow, for a reckoning within our own movement. (9/13)
We fight every damn day against oppressive forces far greater than us. It is counterintuitive, morale-crushing, and debilitating to our movement that we must also waste energy and time fighting to be listened to within our own organizations. (10/13)
We are committed to our work at @MajoritySpeaks continuing to fight against the current administration, in spite of the lack of support its Board of Directors and management has shown us. (11/13)
To our allies at feminist organizations across the country, the many FMF former staff & interns, & the network of student orgs affiliated with @FeministCampus, we are asking for your support-add your name to our letter in support of FM Union: http://actionnetwork.org/forms/stand-with-the-fm-union/">https://actionnetwork.org/forms/sta... (12/13)
We’ve already got one Trump election to deal with--we don’t need another. (13/13)
