Why I will never shut up about refs
ideas that appear original are just a culmination of many unseen hours outside of doing the actual work going into researching how to create a piece https://twitter.com/yueko__/status/1308136374940262401
If you find yourself heavily referencing a piece, chances are your visual library hasn't been fleshed out yet so you're emulating someone else's work into your own. This is why getting MORE reference is important so you can fill the gaps your imagination currently doesn't have.
Personally I find it really uncomfortable when I see people just blatantly copy parts of my compositions rather than taking the initiative to do more research into other influences they have and making their own thing.
Studies in private are fine, but when you claim it as your own - that's when you could potentially get into the unintentional asshole position because creating art is so personal to all of us and so much work goes into it.

GET. MORE. REFERENCE.
These are pretty close to the photo reference I used, but I tried to vary them a bit from what I worked from
Are some of these the same thing as what I drew? No
But does the general aesthetic and feel match what I intended? Yes
Don't even get me started on the deep rabbit hole I went down for the train interior diorama piece lol
The best piece of reference I found was a luxury car diagram that showed a cutaway section of how the sleeper compartment worked and it saved so many brain cells
Cuz guess what else I do when I'm not making pieces? Looking for reference :D

If you've followed me for a while, you know that I really love stairs and the way they integrate into environments, and that's lead me to find other architectural styles and influences.
