Trisha Paytas's Antisemitism; A Thread 1/
So Trisha has a long history of faking being a part of marginalized groups for clout (having DID, being trans), and her latest and greatest is faking being Jewish. 2/
she's said in the past that she'd fake being Jewish to attract a Jewish partner 3/ https://twitter.com/trishapaytas/status/665698019027750913?s=20
In addition to denying her antisemitism by weaponizing her Jewish boyfriend (who probably deserves better ngl) https://twitter.com/trishapaytas/status/1245111839626649600?s=20
She's said that the Jews killed Jesus publicly (no, it was the romans). This is both very much not true and also has been historically used to justify murder of Jews. https://twitter.com/deadgals/status/1307779835419332611?s=20
she's openly admitted to fetishing jews (this is called philosemitism!) and tried to correct Jewish people on what "hasidic" means. She is incorrect in this video. https://twitter.com/deadgals/status/1307780159538450432?s=20 5/
she rated her "jew lunch." which... 1) this is philosemitic 2) jewish and israeli culture is not the same thing!! overlap, not the same. this is ISRAELI food. 3) "jew lunch" really? no.
https://twitter.com/deadgals/status/1307781729025953792?s=20 7/
Again, pretending to be Jewish for clout/content. https://twitter.com/deadgals/status/1307773966455635968?s=20 8/
This is what's super problematic: not only is she pretending to be Jewish, she is routinely speaking over Jews on issues that concern us. Here, her Israeli boyfriend (I think) has to correct her when she says they don't support Palestine https://twitter.com/lucinda_bowie/status/1306742059529834496?s=20 9/
She's forcibly trying to worm her way into Rosh Hashanah celebrations. A reminder: Judaism is a closed practice. If a Jewish person invites a non-jew into celebration of a holiday, that is lovely. You don't get to insert yourself. 10/ https://twitter.com/trishapaytas/status/1305937192758382593?s=20
This video. JEWISH RITUALS DON'T BELONG TO YOU. parsley (on the seder plate) is representative of the flourishing of the Jewish people in Egypt. 11/
The candle she holds is a yahrziet candle, lit on the anniversary of a close relatives death. Wine has specific ritual purposes. These things have meaning and you don't get to use them for clout. Also, vanilla doesn't belong in matzah balls that's disgusting. 12/
I'm not watching this entire video, but no, Trisha, you don't dress like an Orthodox woman and also there's no one way Orthodox women dress. (also stereotypes babyyyy) 13/
There is absolutely more of this nonsense on her YT and probably tiktok, but I am going to lay out very clearly why this is antisemitic.
1. She is pretending to be Jewish. This is cultural appropriation. Converts and people in the process of are absolutely Jews 14/
Non-Jewish people pretending to be Jewish is not the same thing. Trisha is not a convert or prospective convert. She is a non-Jewish woman pretending to be Jewish for clout.
2. The way she pretends to be Jewish borders on caricature. No one wears IDF shirts 24/7. 15/
No Jewish person would refer to falafel as "Jew food." For lots of us being Jewish is a big part of our personality, but uh not like that.
3. JEWISH and ISRAELI are not the same thing. yes there is a lot of overlap but no they aren't the same. don't assume they are 16/
Fundamentally, it comes down to the fact that Jewish culture is not a costume and you don't get to use it to create content as you wish. And it most certainly doesn't give you authority to speak over actual Jewish people on Jewish issues and culture. 17/
Doing so is antisemitic. I'm going to stop at 18 tweets, but I want to acknowledge that this is not a full list of the BS she's pulled, but it should be enough for you. I also want to credit @deadgals and @radiantbutch - they compiled a lot of this info first. 18/18
