The whole thing that happened with the agent yesterday is bigger than just one person making horrible remarks on twitter, it’s about the undercurrent of rejections that hold that racism when we can’t see it & the ppl who are put I positions of power over BIPoC careers
It’s a BIG problem bc I know there are more people like that and i think one very important thing everyone should take away from this is that you should believe BIPOC when we say things are harmful or racist or make us uncomfortable bc rarely is there ever proof this clear
It’s so frustrating for us to say we’ve experienced something & for ppl to question it at every turn. After seeing the tweets this woman from writers beware said “are they real? Bc the agent is being viciously trolled” this is why we don’t get anywhere, you keep us stuck
I’m frankly incredibly tired of being dismissed, you know how you feel when ppl don’t believe you about t*ump being terrible? That’s how you make us feel every day, and we’re dealing with BOTH things so tell me how that’s fair? How are we supposed to write in this environment?
How is any author of color any Black author any queer author supposed to believe our rejections are subjective based on writing and market and not on who we are in this environment ? Just because it makes you uncomfortable to think about doesn’t make it less true
