Liberals will always be at a disadvantage to conservatives when it comes to elections because conservatives will always cheat more.
This isn’t a partisan statement, it’s an observation based on how each side chooses to perceive itself.

If you watch the football World Cup it’s fascinating to see how different cultures have completely different attitudes to the whole concept of The Rules.
Some cultures regard the rules as the framework within which the game is played. The game only exists within that framework

To these cultures - and their teams - there can BE no victory outside the framework of the rules. They don’t cheat to win because they genuinely believe that if you had to cheat, you DIDN’T win. There IS no victory through cheating.

Some OTHER cultures regard The Rules as just another obstacle between them and victory, to be surmounted or bypassed like all the other obstacles. They don’t believe in cheating either, but in the sense that they don’t recognise the CONCEPT of cheating.

As far as these teams are concerned, anything that leads to victory - and that you can GET AWAY with - counts. It’s all legit, rules or no rules. There’s only winning, by whatever means come to hand.

This brings me back to my original point; it’s not that conservatives are morally inferior to liberals, it’s that they hold themselves to a completely different set of standards and ideals.

Liberals’ self-image is predicated on the idea that they’re BETTER PEOPLE than conservatives. That they care more about others, they give more, they include more, and - crucially - they PLAY FAIR.
They’re like those rule-abiding football nations.

Conservatives’ self image is predicated on being TOUGHER than the opposition. They’re more focused, more goal-orientated, they’re less fretful about what others think of them and they do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the job done.
They’re like the screw-the-rules football nations.

So cheating - or at the very least, GAMESMANSHIP rather than sportsmanship - comes much easier to conservatives than to liberals, because it bolsters their self image, while playing fair (or being a sucker, depending on your POV) strengthens liberals’ self image.

This is why whenever liberals have power they wield it so timidly, whereas when conservatives get it they wield it like a sledgehammer.
Labour/Democrat administrations are always all about hands across the aisle and olive branches, even after a landslide victory…

Tory/Republican governments are always WOO YEAH WE WON SUCK IT even after they’ve scraped in on a technicality.
Trouble is that liberals are loath to point this out or even acknowledge it for fear of being called whiny or sore losers…

… but until they accept this reality and realise that they have to fight back hard against opponents who will ALWAYS fight dirty, they’ll always be at a HUGE disadvantage.
