larry is a cult — a thread:

literally speaking, a cult is a social group that’s defined by their beliefs or it’s common interest in a personality. in this case, it’s the interest in the relationship between harry styles and louis tomlinson. it doesn’t sound so bad, a group of people united by something!

but when you take into account the sociological side of things, shit can get ugly and it can lead to dangerous situations or become an unhealthy obsession, which is the case here. the larry conspiracy has been going strong for over 10 years now and it never stops.

how did larry start? when larries tell you that harry and louis started larry, they are right. they were best friends and the fans ate it up. it was all fun games! until eleanor got involved, then larries started harassing her, then louis' little sisters (askfm remember? lmao)

and then even his mom. the "larry is bullshit" tweet happened because that person was talking shit about jay and stan (louis’ bff from home) and louis saw the tweets. obviously by then larry stopped being funny and just a cute friendship thing, but it was too late.

louis has a problem bitting his tongue, so he fought larries on twitter over and over again and harry isn’t really a confrontational person, especially in public, i believe they disagreed on how to handle larry rumours.

now, what makes a cult... a cult?

we all know that when someone starts to doubt larry, they get called a “weak larrie” or they are shamed for having doubts. this is cult mentality. and when this happens, people hurry to say things like “go read a masterpost”, “go watch some youtube videos” “don’t unlarry”, etc.

larries don’t care about hating on eleanor because she’s a beard, they can shit on camille because she did x, they don’t have a problem harassing louis’ sisters or doubting the existence of a literal child, because they are right! larry is real and that justifies their behavior.

larries vs antis/harries is something we’re used to by now. larries can’t follow antis or solo stans without being shamed. they don’t want to associate with people who may show them another perspective because if they do, they may see the light, and that can’t happen.

in this case, the end of the world is larry coming out. when larry comes out, they are going to be right, and the rest of the fandom will be fools. #endbabygate, the CO is near, etc. but never comes and it's been years of this. the date just gets pushed.

cults also need to have enemies. in this case, the enemies range from modest management to simon cowell and sometimes even the azoffs. what would they gain sabotaging their would clients? yeah, larries can’t really give you an answer that makes any sense.

when someone mentions louis or harry, they're spammed with LARRY IS REAL comments, blue and green hearts , etc. eventually, people are curious to know what the fuck is larry, and that's how more people get drawn to this ridiculous conspiracy theory.

now, louis and harry are not the leaders, they are the object of worship. the leaders are the so called "big larries", the ones who dictate the narrative, make headcanons, they have tons of “receipts”, but no real proof of course, they clear any doubts, they have big followings..

it’s worth mentioning that once big larries were caught making sideblogs to decide what was worth discussing and what should be kept hidden - like party boy louis in 2015. if your fandom is so healthy, why are you purposely trying to hide things that don’t fit your narrative?

when they say "larries are teachers, doctors, lawyers, they're in the industry", it basically means: these people are important and above you and believe larry is real, so you should too. it's a way to trick people into taking their word without questioning bc they know better

another thing is their inconsistency. freddie doesn’t exist, then he’s a doll, then he’s tammis child. louis won’t sign the birth certificate, but when louis does, birth certificates are easy to fake. harry won’t go solo, but when he goes... well. you get it.

so, what makes people fall for it and stay believing the conspiracy? well, they created a community, where they have friends who think the same things they do, some of them make art, etc. there's also the fear of leaving , getting shunned and losing all their friends.

when the band was together and louis didn't have a child, they had tons of content to obsess over, so my guess is that it was genuinely fun shipping them, but it all went to shit and now they can't let go, they have invested too much time in this to stop now.

and if you're a larrie, ask yourself, what is more likely:

1) harry and louis were best friends and grew apart, maybe they became different people, or larry became too much. louis is dating eleanor, who he's known since 2011, and has a baby who's 4 years old today

2) harry and louis are being closeted even though their contracts ended years ago, louis was forced to sign a birth certificate for a child that isn't his, and has pretented to be a father for four years now. harry is free to come out as unlabeled, louis can't even pick up a flag

in conclusion: fuck larries.
