Hello, this is ORBITS.

Recently, we’ve seen the styling of Girl of The Month Choerry’s hair in the 12:00/Midnight teaser image. The styling of her hair uses the backgrounds and cultures of Indigenous People of America.

The feathers in Choerry’s hair signify a sacred element of their culture. The braids paired with the feathers and cloth in Choerry’s hair are sacred to their culture and are only tied when a bird - that are believed to be

the reincarnations of the dead - gives the person a feather, it is a moment to honor their dead ancestors. When feathers are worn as headdresses, it is also a symbol of status.

Regular braids, such as the ones in Heejin’s teaser are not offensive. There are many tribes associated with this such as the Comechingon and Nahua (Latin America) and more.

Another concern that we have is that we hope the concept of this comeback isn’t “Indians & Cowboys”, because that is a stereotypical and violent interpretation of their culture and occupation that shouldn’t be romanticized.

Many Orbits are a part of these cultures and deeply love LOONA. However, they want to educate the stylists and girls on why they cannot use this style. Using the culture of Indigenous peoples of America is deeply offensive and disrespectful.

This is why we are emailing you, so that this incident does not affect LOONA’s future activities and comeback. We are aware of the differences of interpretation in Asian culture of Western culture but it is

seen as offensive to people from Western cultures and many other cultures in the world. Therefore, it should never be repeated, so as to keep a respectful attitude to other cultures.

We kindly ask you to take down the teaser and for BlockBerry Creative’s staff and idols to educate themselves about cultural and religious sentiments of props and

stylings so as to not hurt any fans of various cultural backgrounds in the future. This also deserves an apology, as it has deeply hurt fans who support LOONA.

ORBITs love LOONA and appreciate BBC’s effort. Because of this, we don't want to see the girls doing anything harmful, and would appreciate LOONA and BlockBerry Creative to educate themselves by addressing this publicly, especially

as they are still on the road to becoming a popular girl group worldwide and to consider editing or reshooting the teaser images with similar styling to Choerry’s teaser. As their influence expands, they should take care to be knowledgeable on other cultures.

땋은 머리에 깃털과 천을 사용하는 것이 문제라고 합니다. 이렇게 사용된 깃털은 아메리카 원주민에게 신성한 것으로 인식됩니다. 문화적으로는, 죽은 자의 환생이라고 믿어지는 새가 그 사람에게 깃털을 줄 때만 묶입니다.

많은 오빛들은 이러한 문화의 일부분이고 이달의 소녀를 깊이 사랑합니다. 하지만, 스타일리스트와 멤버들에게도 왜 이런 스타일을 사용할 수 없는지 교육하기를 원합니다. 미국 원주민들의 문화를 이용하는 것은 매우 불쾌하고 무례한 행동입니다.

그래서 이 사건이 이달의 소녀의 향후 활동과 컴백에 좋지 않은 영향을 미치지 않도록 이 글을 드립니다. 동양 문화에서 서양 문화로의 해석 차이, 또는 서로에게 일반적으로 인식되지 않은 포인트도 있다는 것도 이해합니다.

하지만 이것은 서양과 세계의 많은 다른 문화권 사람들에게 모욕적인 것으로 여겨질 수 있습니다. 그러므로 다른 문화에 대한 존경심을 유지하기 위해서 이것은 절대 반복되어서는 안 된다고 생각합니다.
