Last night @keithbaldrey on @GlobalBC talked about an early election call here in BC as soon as today. While some believe we don't need an early campaign, here's my view on why it's time to go to the ballot box - and that we can do it safely. #bcpoli #bcelxn
1. The @bcreens formal partnership ended when @AJWVictoriaBC left the Green caucus. Andrew was the key partner to CASA - and a great governing partner for the Premier. But when he stepped down for personal reasons, the agreement became tenuous at best. https://vancouversun.com/news/politics/andrew-weaver-resigns-as-bc-green-leader
2. New @BCGreens leader @SoniaFurstenau tried tried to torpedo this summer's budget. Furstenau tried to amend the budget in the legislature with no notice - a last minute surprise that governing partners just don't do.
3. The @bcgreens sunk a piece of government clean energy legislation. While not a confidence motion, even @AJWVictoriaBC was critical of this move - calling it "throwing out the baby with the bathwater" - https://www.andrewweavermla.ca/2020/07/28/bc-greens-ensure-baby-thrown-bathwater-bill-17/
4. It's time for a new mandate for the @bcndp. Two years ago, CBC's @j_mclelroy wrote that @jjhorgan had enacted 75% of his agenda - no small feat for a leader of any party. Two years later, it's time to give the Premier a fresh mandate. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-government-ndp-promise-tracker-1.4669968
5. We can do an election safely - even during COVID. Dr. Henry has said we can do it, New Brunswick safely went to the polls a few weeks ago, and New Zealand is holding an election this fall. https://www.saltwire.com/news/canada/bc-exploring-elections-during-pandemic-as-provincial-speculation-swirls-477043/
