Nooooo :(

Ron Cobb (1937-2020) is dead. I am devastated.

From Alien to Close Encounters of the Third Kind to The Last Starfighter, I have often shared his work here. I am sincerely sad. Especially so soon after Syd Mead.

As a tribute, I will publish my favorite works below.
John's Carpenter's Dark Star (1974), where Ron met future Alien screenwriter Dan O'Bannon.

(I still can't believe his dead)
Then he worked on Jodorowsky's Dune, canceled circa 1975.

H.R. Giger, Moebius and Chris Foss worked on this project too. All of them will work on Alien.
Ron then created some alien designs for the Mos Eisley cantina in Star Wars (1977).

Hello Ithorian.
1979: Alien. The masterpiece.

THIS is an alien planet. <3

More Nostromo designs by Ron Cobb.
The design that served as the foundation for the model.

That's why the model was first painted in yellow.
I love his "Snark" design.
His interiors were wonderful too. And have influenced many later works.
Alien (1979) interiors by Ron Cobb.
His Nostromo bridge(s) is so great.
Don't forget his cat box!
Other Ron Cobb ship designs for Alien (1979).
And his Narcissus.
An idea not forgotten. https://twitter.com/TheSpaceshipper/status/1102433488521838595
The Derelict was H.R. Giger design, but Ron Cobb tried.
Time to finish with Alien.

More other Cobb works:
Not a ship but a great plane design in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

I showed this movie to my son for the 1st time yesterday...

Art by Ron Cobb:
Cobb worked on the special edition of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Early 80s, he designed an alien for Night Skies, who became E.T. later.
In 1982, he was art director for a H2G2 miniseries. I think it was not the 1981 BBC series, but a canceled US project. My research are in the to-do list ^^

Here is his Vogon ship.
I showed them many times.

Ron Cobb worked a lot on The Last Starfighter (1984), from concept art to storyboards.

Ron Cobb even worked on Titan A.E. (2000).
And Firefly (2002)! https://twitter.com/TheSpaceshipper/status/1137600209687646211
Ron Cobb then worked on District 9 (unused design).

John Carter was released in 2012, but he worked on an early version, circa 1990.
Other works for The Last Starfighter and Space Truckers.
Some other ship designs by Ron Cobb.
And finally: Ron was first a talented cartoonist.
Now I can mourn one of the greatest artists the film industry has known.

So long, Ron, and thanks for all the ships.

No, I did not show everything, it would take 10,000 tweets, nor talked about all of his films, because I am focusing on scifi.

But you can read, especially the excellent books of @jwrinzler
I forgot to say these were Wing Commander designs... https://twitter.com/banditloaf/status/1308078251399667712
For 5 decades, Ron Cobb’s work inspired thousand of artists.

Please tell me if that’s your case, why and how: I’m working on a tribute. https://twitter.com/jumpovertheage/status/1308115009315262467
