An inquiry is long overdue into the dire 111 service. When my dad was going through the brunt of his chemo & we needed to call on the service, he received dangerous advice many, many times. Often we’d have to by-pass it entirely & head straight to a&e https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/21/covid-bereaved-call-for-inquiry-into-nhs-111-handling-of-crisis?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other">https://www.theguardian.com/world/202...
I remember once he had virtually every single glaring symptom of sepsis following an extensive cycle of chemotherapy and they advised him to stay home & take paracetamol. We ignored it and called an ambulance...thank god we did because it was indeed sepsis.
I wish I could say it was a one off, but it happened *dozens* of times. They use a kind of weird flow chart diagnosis which often doesn’t take complex health histories into account. If the operator needs a nurse or doctor to help, can easily be another 4-12 hr wait on a good day
