I would like to disagree a little. The obscene wealth of politicians is more inflammatory because they’re the gatekeepers of political and social change reliant on policies and collective actions as opposed to the general elite. Of course the ruling elite goes beyond politicians https://twitter.com/akkhan81/status/1307935508841066496
But those sitting in the parliament or occupying public forums will mostly fight for what suits them, informed by their own experiences. The last tweet in this thread suggests that we need to do on-ground mobilisation for labour rights, equality etc. but that’s the thing
The demarcation between what happens above and what happens on the ground and that too by civil society members somewhat depoliticises the issue thus absolving the state of taking responsibility. This is why activists create hue and cry but to what end when it is almost always
Dismissed by the ruling hand. And I understand that this issue is not limited to one political party and there are one too many such examples within the current government but conflating the wealth of the elite and that of political class is dangerous and alienating
