1) take a Popn level approach as #covid19 affects everybody, society is an open system, and herd immunity is not proven. Still give more focus to vulnerable groups
2) “new” normal is trade off between virus suppression and impact on economy & society. May need to adapt flexibly here in response to virus
3) controlling the virus, and economic recovery are strongly interlinked . Need to do both, and find a route through
4) airborne transmission evidence increasing, need to move towards more use of face covering, using outdoor space wherever possible, and only indoor well ventilated spaces
5) need to get routine medical services up and running ASAP, focussing on different ways of doing things, and on urgent need, vulnerable groups, and inequalities
6) complex systems require complex solutions. Not one magic policy intervention will make all the difference, it’s a combination!
7) data and evidence are important, but certainty is elusive. Respond pragmatically!
I would add to my synopsis above, the need for us to be kind, and look out for each other, no matter our differences. #covid19 feels very divisive right now, we need to get the narrative right!
