PTSD is far too often associated solely with military veterans, despite the fact that 33% of children that are exposed to community violence will experience It. For male Vietnam Era Veterans, the rate is 30% according to the National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study.
The same is true with trauma, something that 220 million American adults (70%) will experience at some point in their lives.

Despite this, we treat veterans like they are the crazy outliers, disregard non-military trauma, and stigmatize talking about it or asking for help.
I’m hoping to change that by doing what has been helpful to me in the past: letting people that are struggling know they aren’t alone. So hopefully sharing a bit of my story can help.
