CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: 255 new cases in Scotland - 6.3% of people newly tested.

103 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 47 in Lanarkshire and 30 in Lothian - the remaining 75 are spread across all the other mainland health boards.

No deaths in the past 24 hours.
The FM says the figures show Covid is spreading again in Scotland.

She says because of efforts over the summer, we are in a much stronger position than we would otherwise be. But "doing nothing in the face of this quite rapid spread is not an option".
Nicola Sturgeon says the positivity rate has been rising - and is higher than 6.3% in some health board areas.

But she says the number of cases is not yet rising as quickly as it was in the spring, and number of positive tests not as high as back then.
But she says the numbers cannot rise indefinitely without it affecting older people in particular.

She warns we could see the number of people dying increasing if infections continue to rise.
The FM says discussions around what to do are continuing but they are "very close" to making a decision.

She says a "package of additional measures" are likely to be introduced, and hopes some of those decisions will be taken on a four-nations basis across the UK.
Ms Sturgeon says a four-nations call was held on Saturday with Michael Gove - and he confirmed a Cobra meeting will be held - but no time has been set for that.

She will speak to Boris Johnson immediately after the press conference.
The FM says the Scottish cabinet will meet tomorrow to take stock and a decision on the way ahead must be taken in the next 48 hours.

Additional restrictions will almost certainly be put in place over the next few days.
FM says financial support package to help people who face a loss of income if they're required to self-isolate will be introduced in Scotland.

Details are being worked on.
She says she doesn't agree with a herd immunity approach - because it can take people's lives but also have serious health implications for younger people.

But she reiterates we're in a better position than March, so shouldn't frame this as "lockdown or not lockdown".
The FM suggests we are not facing another complete lockdown at this stage - and asks everyone to "think carefully" about how they can play their part.
National Clinical Director Prof Jason Leitch points out 300,000 people tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday alone - with 4,000 deaths across the globe.

He says Europe had its highest new total of cases yet on Saturday - 68,000 people.

France had 13,000 - highest so far.
