things like systematic voter suppression, the electoral college, gerrymandering and the legalization of corruption through citizens united has become so normalized that the suggestion the US is undemocratic and increasingly fascistic elicits shrieks of hysteria in some corners

doesn't seem like a good idea to ignore the already existing and normalized anti-democratic and fascistic elements of US society and point to some fantasy image of what Real Fascism is, typically some copy of 1930s germany and italy, as evidence that everything is actually fine
