Hi @chrisfroome. You liked this photo a while back. A retweet amplifying this thread would be appreciated.

My uncles funeral will take place this week. Rodney was a cyclist.
A few years ago he was hit by a tractor being driven carelessly round a bend. The incident snapped his neck leaving him tetraplegic.
For this, the driver of the tractor, with a history of bad driving, was fined £80 and given a six point license tariff. This is, of course, gross injustice but it is not the point of this thread.
Rod was a member of @britishcycling. Their legal support people ensured that the tractor drivers insurance company provided appropriate financial assistance.
This included a temporary, suitable, rented house, a custom built house, custom equipment and permanent two person, 24 hour, live-in, personal assistant care.
This is the minimum compensation for a damaged life. It greatly reduced the burden on his family after the excellent, initial @NHS care had come to an end.
If that legal assistance from @britishcycling had not been available the outcome would have likely been vastly different.
Organisations like @britishcycling and @wearecyclinguk and their equivalents in other countries are our trade unions advocating for a better cycling world.
